OHSAS 45001

OHSAS 45001 refers to the Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series standard. It is an internationally recognized standard that sets out the requirements for an occupational health and safety management system (OH&SMS).

The standard was developed to provide a framework for organizations to manage their occupational health and safety risks and to promote a safe and healthy working environment for employees and other stakeholders. It is based on the principles of continuous improvement and risk management, and it requires organizations to identify and assess their health and safety hazards, implement controls to mitigate them, and monitor their effectiveness.

OHSAS 45001 can be applied to any organization, regardless of its size or industry sector. It is designed to be compatible with other management systems, such as ISO 9001 (quality management) and ISO 14001 (environmental management).

In March 2021, OHSAS 45001 was replaced by ISO 45001:2018, an international standard for OH&S management systems. ISO 45001 is more comprehensive than OHSAS 45001 and includes a stronger focus on worker participation, leadership, and the context of the organization.
